Calgary Youth Sports Official Rulebook
Welcome to Calgary Youth Sports! Our league follows the FIBA Rulebook to ensure fair and competitive play. This document outlines key league policies, including regular season structure, playoff format, forfeit policy, and game-specific rules.
1. Regular Season & Seeding
- Each team will play a predetermined number of games in the regular season.
- Standings are determined by win-loss record. Tiebreakers will be resolved using:
- Head-to-head record
- Point differential
- Total points scored
- Coin flip (if necessary)
- Teams will be seeded in the playoffs based on their regular season performance.
2. Playoff Format
- The number of teams qualifying for playoffs will depend on the division size.
- Single-elimination format will be used for all playoff rounds.
- Higher-seeded teams will face lower-seeded teams in the first round.
- Overtime rules will apply in all playoff games (see Section 5).
3. Forfeit Policy
- A team must have a minimum of five players to start a game.
- If a team is unable to field five players within 2 minutes of the scheduled start time, they will forfeit the game.
- A forfeited game is recorded as a 20-0 loss for the team unable to participate.
- Multiple forfeits may result in team disqualification from the playoffs.
4. Gameplay Rules (FIBA Rules Apply)
- Game Duration (Run Time): Four 10-minute quarters with a 24-second shot clock.
- Timeouts: Each team gets three timeouts per half.
- Fouls: Players foul out after their 5th personal foul.
- Players/Coaches must leave the facility when assessed 2 technical fouls in one game.
- Bonus Free Throws: Teams enter the bonus after five team fouls per quarter.
- Defense: Both man-to-man and zone defenses are allowed.
- Backcourt Violation: Teams have 8 seconds to advance the ball past half-court.
5. Overtime Rules
- Regular Season Overtime: One 3-minute overtime period. If still tied, the game will result in a draw.
- Playoff Overtime: Unlimited 3-minute overtime periods until a winner is determined.
- Each team gets 1 timeout per overtime period.
- Team fouls reset at the start of each overtime.
6. Sportsmanship & Conduct
- Unsportsmanlike behavior, verbal abuse, or physical altercations will result in immediate ejection and possible suspension.
- Coaches, players, and spectators must adhere to the league’s code of conduct.
